Are you interested in gathering some new cookie recipes, learning about holiday traditions, along with the chance to win a $150 Gift Card? Well, do I have an event for you! I’m one of the authors participating in the Historical Romance Cookie Hop. I have a short post on the Victorian Christmas tree and a sweet cookie recipe that can be made not only during the holidays but throughout the year.
The Victorian Christmas Tree
By the end of the 19th century, the Christmas holiday had become one of the most celebrated in Victorian England. The tradition of having a Christmas tree became more popular thanks in part to Queen Victoria’s husband, Albert, who was from Germany where indoor Christmas trees are said to have originated. The trees would be decorated with everything from sweet candy treats to costly glass ornaments. Some even placed candles on them, which is where the tradition of stringing electric lights on a tree comes from. In my Victorian Christmas novella, The Taming of Lord Scrooge, Eve hangs homemade ornaments on her Christmas tree. If you’re interested in reading my novella it is currently on sale this week at several online retailers for .99¢.
